An electrical network is only as robust as its protection. Grounded Energy delivers comprehensive Protection Coordination studies to develop schemes, establish settings, validate descrimination and ensure your scheme clears faults, limiting equipment damage whilst maintaining the stability of healthy circuits.
Typical assessments
Overcurrent schemes: Grading analysis, Relay Setting Schedules and Visual Log-log Time-Current Characteristics (TCC’s)
Earth Overcurrent: Schemes: Grading analysis, Relay Setting Schedules and Visual Log-log Time-Current Characteristics (TCC’s)
Differential Protection: Usually implemented on larger sites for big ticket items. We provide high or low impedance type schemes, for line or transformer differential.
Distance Protection:Distance protection requires requires precise a deep understanding of the system and fault characteristics. We provide impedance reach zone selectivity settings, power swing blocking, Mho / Quadrilateral Characteristics and can assess the Source-to-Line Impedance Ratio.

Compliance with the Health & Safety at Work Act and EAWR 1989 requires that live working risks be eliminated or minimised. Grounded Energy conducts comprehensive Arc Flash Hazard Analysis to quantify the thermal energy for accessable areas, ensuring your personel are aware and protected against arc faults.
There are two main ways of doing and Arc flash assessment, the table method or the calculation method. At Grounded Energy we favour the calculation method. For studies the IEEE 1584-2018 is followed up to 15kV, beyond this the Ralph Lee method is employeed.
Typical Assessments
Incident Energy Calculations
Arc Flash Boundaries: Defining the "Keep Out" zone for unprotected personnel.
PPE Selection: specifying the correct Arc Thermal Performance Value (ATPV) for safety gear.
Define Working Distance
Provide Equipment Labelling
Risk Reduction; We review protection settings to see if the incident energy levels can be reduced, minimising the need for heavy PPE and improving operational safety.
